MTV VMAs host hoping for unexpected moments

The stage is set and the moon person has landed in Newark, New Jersey for the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The music channel invited press in to see the set and celebrity seating placement on Thursday. First time host comedian Sebastian said his excitements went away after seeing the space for the first time. Taylor Swift will open the show and is seated front row next to rapper Cardi B. Swift and Ariana Grande dominate nominations with 10 apiece.

Grande's breakup anthem "thank u, next" and Swift's "You Need to Calm Down," will run for the top prizes of song of the year, best pop and video of the year. Grande also got a nod for artist of the year along with Cardi B, 17-year-old newcomer Billie Eilish, Halsey, the Jonas Brothers and Shawn Mendes. Other performers include Bad Bunny, Jonas Brothers while Missy Elliott will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Fans vote on the winners of the VMAs, which will be announced at a show on August 26.
