Myanmar Fire Brigade Day: VSG attends ceremony to mark 78th Anniversary

The ceremony to mark the 78th Anniversary of Myanmar Fire Brigade Day was held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre-II in Nay Pyi Taw on May 5 with an address by Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

The Vice-Senior General ceremonially opened the ceremony and a video clip for the 78th Anniversary of Myanmar Fire Brigade Day was screened.

In his address, the Vice-Senior General stressed that May 5 is the 78th Anniversary of Myanmar Fire Brigade Day which has been standing tall with fine traditions and prestige in protecting life and property of ethnic people residing in the country against danger of fire and other dangers in successive eras.

The First Volunteer Fire Brigade Conference was held in Kandawgale of Yangon on 5 May, Sunday, 1946 and the date was designated as the Myanmar Fire Brigade Day. The Myanmar Fire Brigade focuses on fire safety, natural disasters prevention, search and rescue and public Services.

During the 10 years period from 2014 to 2023, about 18,000 times of fire broke out in the country, losing more than 187 billion Kyats worth of property. As climate changes and population increases as well as the country develops, number of outbreaks of fire may rise. It is necessary to raise public awareness for taking care of danger of fire and making fire preventive measures in order to reduce loss and damage in the outbreak of fire.

The Myanmar Fire Brigade must have Men Power, Equipment Power and Technological Power, the Vice-Senior General added. The ceremony continued with presenting awards. 

And, the SAC Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae presented a memorial gift to the Vice-Senior General. And, the Union Minister presented awards to the outstanding Fire Brigade members.

And, the Vice-Senior General along with the participants of the ceremony toured the display of the antique fire vehicles and modern fire vehicles and equipment.

In the evening, the 78th Myanmar Fire Brigade Day honorary dinner was held at the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC-II) with the presence of the Vice-Senior General. The dinner included stage performances and awards were presented to the artistes.
