State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held bilateral summit with President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in on the sidelines of the 2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit on Tuesday in Busan.

The two sides discussed ways to boost bilateral ties in various fields including fisheries and environment, South Korea's presidential office said. President Moon invited ASEAN leaders to the two-day event in Busan to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their partnership.

In 2017, Moon unveiled a new policy called the "New Southern Policy" aiming to better connect South Korea to ASEAN members. Myanmar and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations in May 1975.

President Moon paid a state visit to Myanmar in September this year. On the same day, the State Counsellor together with President Moon and wife as well as ASEAN leaders visited ASEAN Culture House in Busan that plays a major role as a cultural bridge between Korea and the ASEAN countries. The building covers 6,524.78 square meters, with two basement levels and four stories above ground.

It has exhibition halls, a VR room, a seminar room and a concert hall. After the visit to the ASEAN Culture House, the State Counsellor together with the leaders from Mekong region countries attended a dinner hosted by President Moon and wife.
