Myanmar-Thai Meeting: Discussion On Reopening Friendship Bridge No.1

Authorities from Myanmar and Thailand held a meeting on the reopening of Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No.1 in Tachileik of Shan State (East).

The meeting was held at Mae Sai border check-point in Thailand on 24th May. According to the invitation of officials from Thailand, a delegation led by Chairman of District Administration Body and District Administrator U MyintNaing and departmental officials discussed with a delegation led by Chiang Rai Province Administrator. Since COVID-19 outbreak, the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No.1 has been closed.

Due to declining COVID-19 infection rate now, Thai people have a desire to reopen the bridge as usual for travelling. At the meeting, the two sides agreed on compliance with the COVID-19 rules and regulations while passing the border, and the travellers must provide that they have been vaccinated twice by showing the vaccination certificate recognized by the Ministry of Health.

It was agreed that the opening date would be announced only after the Myanmar side submitted a national report.
