Myanmar Women’s Day: SAC Chairman convened video message to the event

The celebration of 2021 Myanmar Women’s Day was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Nay Pyi Taw in line with COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

Members of State Administration Council Daw Aye Nu Sein, Jeng Phang Naw Taung, U Shwe Kyein, wives of SAC members U Maung Har, Saw Dannial and Dr Bayna Aung Moe, Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khaing, Union Attorney General Dr Thida Oo, women members of union-level organizations, permanent secretaries, director-generals, deputy directors-general, chairperson of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation, chairperson and members of Myanmar Women and Children Development Foundation, wives of the members of union-level organizations, chairs, secretaries and officials of the committees from Nay Pyi Taw, regions and states attended the event through the online system.

First, the Chairman of State Administration Council, Commander In Chief of Defense Service, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing addressed the event with a Video Message.

In his opening address, the State Administration Council chairman, Commander in Chief of Defense Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing wished for the physical and mental wellbeing and auspiciousness of the attendees, congratulating all Myanmar Women on Myanmar Women’s Day. Next, the Senior General pointed out that Myanmar Women’s Day was designated on July 3 in which the national level women’s committee was formed. Throughout the course of Myanmar history, Myanmar women have a good legacy in different fields to protect, care and develop the family, society, country and national interest while keeping abreast with men. Women participated in the struggle for the country’s independence together with men and Myanmar women are involved in the leading role in the national movements. Those are the milestones that inspired all Myanmar women to be proud of. At the present moment, Myanmar women are serving great responsibilities in the legislative, executive and judicial sectors and leading the country’s reform works. The Beijing Declaration and Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) resulting from the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, in September 1995, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Sustainable Development Goals and the global level commitments are being implemented in line with the provisions of the state constitution (2008) etc.

Next, the Chair of Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khaing clarified the implementations for the development of women, global and regional commitments, the celebration of International Women’s Day, formation of working mechanisms, implementations of the National Level Strategic Plan (2013-2022), tasks carrying out for Prevention and Response to Sexual Violence in Conflict, implementations to enact the law on prevention of violence against women, giving Helpline Services regarding with the domestic violence, violence against women and under-aged rape cases, responses to gender-based violence, providing cash assistance for victims of violence, implementations of UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, etc.

Then, the video clip on women’s development milestones was screened.

Next, the program of award presenting was continued and SAC member Daw Aye Nu Sein awarded the outstanding woman officer prize to Sub-lieutenant April Cho who received the best cadet award of women military officer training Batch-7.

SAC member Jeng Phang Naw Taung presented the outstanding woman police officer award to Police Lieutenant Colonel Win Nilar and council member U Shwe Kyein presented the outstanding woman Red Cross award to the township commander Daw San San Maw.

After taking a documentary group photo by the attendees the celebration reached its conclusion.
