NASA unveiled its experimental aircraft, X-59, a quiet supersonic aircraft as part of the agency's goal to make commercial supersonic flight possible, during a roll-out ceremony in California on Friday. Nasa revealed the X-59, that is expected to fly at 1.4 times the speed of sound or 1,488 kilometers per hour.
Pam Elroy, NASA Deputy Administrator said "As we unveil this technological marvel it's really important to understand the profound impact the X-59 holds for the aviation industry. Designed as a jet capable of breaking the sound barrier, the X-59 of course distinguishes itself as you may have heard with its revolutionary quiet supersonic technology, enabling it to actually transition and be used."
The aircraft, which stands at 99.7ft long and 29.5ft wide, built by Lockheed Martin, is designed to develop a quieter type of supersonic flight.
