Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) is selecting new generation football players for 2022-2023 academic years.

The selected students will join the Football Academies in Yangon, Mandalay and Pathein which have been run by the MFF.

About 230 students had applied for selection; however, the three academies can only hold a capacity of 180 students. Since there are also old students and students selected for U-16 at the academies, the number of new students selected will depend on the available slots.

Nyi Nyi Latt, Director of Youth Development, MFF  said “We have announced the selection news on both online and our website. Upon making selection, we observe their technical skills in passing, controlling, dribbling, running with the ball and shooting. It takes 1 full day to observe all the applying students. On the second part, we make them compete against each other in 8 on 8 matches. If 60 students are good but we have only 30 places available, we will only select the best of them.”

The selected students will also be provided with the academic subjects in additional to the coaching of football techniques.

Nyi Nyi Latt, Director of Youth Development, MFF said “The Myanmar Football Federation will take responsibility of the students’ education from age 12 to 16. We serve them five meals per day. At weekends, our students can get an Out Pass with their parents or we arrange them to go to recreation places such as pagodas, go swimming, or learn other sports.”

It is learnt that the selection process for new students has been made from 5th to 7th Mayin Pathein, and from 8th to 10th May in Yangon. The process will be made from 12th to 15thMay for the Football Academy in Mandalay.
