New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and California Governor Gavin Newsom pledged to work together to confront climate change during a meeting in the New Zealand section of a botanical garden in San Francisco.

Arden has pushed to make New Zealand one of few nations legally bound to carbon neutrality, with a goal of zero emissions by 2050.

The memorandum of cooperation signed Friday commits the Pacific nation and the state to an ongoing dialogue about how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The two also discussed exporting more electric vehicles from California to New Zealand, which does not produce its own EVs.
