Worshippers performed the pilgrimage of Umrah for the first time with no social distancing since the start of the pandemic on Sunday, after Saudi Arabia announced the easing of a number of COVID-19 rules.

From Sunday people will no longer need to wear face masks in open places across the kingdom. However, those wishing to enter the Grand Holy Mosque to perform the pilgrimage must wear a face mask, have both doses of one of the approved vaccines in Saudi, and obtain approval through a government app before going.
