Japan's Industry Minister on Wednesday urged the operator of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to take thorough measures to ensure safety following a series of radioactive water leak incidents at the plant.

The leak occurred on February 7 and the human error was deemed as the cause of the incident. The plant has been generating a massive amount of water tainted with radioactive substances from cooling down the nuclear fuel in the reactor buildings, which are now being stored in tanks at the nuclear plant.

Japan started to discharge the Fukushima wastewater into the Pacific Ocean in August 2023, despite repeated objections by governments, various communities and organizations in Japan and the Pacific region.
