Paying Respects Ceremony: Marking Sarsodaw Day in Myanmar

The 35th paying respects ceremony to doyen literati to mark Myanmar Literati Day or Sarsodaw Day is planned to be held by Myanmar Writers Association in December.

Nyunt Tin (Writer Maung Nyein Thu), Secretary, Myanmar Writers Association said "Myanmar Writers association has held paying respects ceremony to senior writers annually since 1980. There are over 200 township associations and over 5000 members under Myanmar Writers Association. Doyen literati are chosen according to the set standard to pay respects. We are going to hold the 35th ceremony in December and 247 doyen literati aged 80 and above will attend to the ceremony. Thanks to the donors and well-wishers, Myanmar Writers Association can hold paying respects ceremony annually."

The 34th paying respects ceremony was held in 2019 and the 276 doyen literati aged 80 and above across the country attended the respects paying ceremony.  The ceremony was postponed for two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.
