Peace Process: State Counsellor Addressed At 9th JICM Meeting

9th Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting (JICM) took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

 Chairperson of the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi gave an opening speech. The State Counsellor stressed that the country cannot settle the conflicts on policy and equality that have emerged along with the Independence by mean of political dialogue.

The consequences lead to the armed conflicts which is still happening till today. For the national reconciliation and peace process, efforts have been made in various ways in successive eras, and it's now reached more than 70 years.

At present, all have unanimously agreed the fact that building a democracy federal union is the solution for tackling the issue for national equality and solidarity, which are the root cause of the armed conflicts. But there are many diverse ideas on how to approach transition to democracy and building a federal union.

These divers ideas cannot be forced into oneness, and all have strived to reach a common agreement for marching towards. She expressed her belief on achieving more success in marching towards the peace process based on mutual understanding and trust. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)Vice Senior General Soe Win also said that country is in a process for building a union based on democracy and federal system from multi-party democracy system through achieving eternal peace.

He stressed that everyone and every organization can express their wish peacefully in line with law as described in the Constitution. He stressed to continue discussions for implementation of the process for post-2020 period in line with the laws.

On behalf of the NCA Signatory EAOs, Chairperson of Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) Ywet Sit also said that the coordination between two negotiation teams have resulted good outcomes for implementation of post-2020 period, basic principal for establishing a democracy federal union, organizing the 4th session of Union Peace Conference 21st Century Panglong, matters for ceasefire and more inclusion of EAOs in peace process. He expressed thanks for the continuous efforts of the negotiation teams.

The meeting approved the agreements that will be included in the Part III of the Union Accord including NCA Implementation Frame- work, future processes and implementation for post-2020 period and federal principle and agreement.
