Thousands of people have been evacuated in the Philippine island of Luzon in anticipation of Typhoon Kammuri.

The evacuation of vulnerable areas was called by local governments in the island's southeast, in preparation for the powerful typhoon expected to make landfall between Monday night and Tuesday morning. Kammuri has maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the centre and gustiness of up to 185 kph, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. The typhoon approaches as the Philippines hosts the 30th South East Asian Games. Some games have been rescheduled and postponed for safety reasons.
