Promoting Sports Standards: PM honors victorious athletes at Asia &global events

A ceremony was held on Tuesday at Wunna Theikdhi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw to honor the victorious athletes from the 2023 Asia and global sports events.
The event was attended by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who expressed gratitude for the dedicated efforts of the victorious athletes, team managers, and coaches in proudly raising the national flag on the global stage.
In his speech, the Prime Minister urged athletes to engage in continuous and rigorous training with proper techniques, adhering to the guidance of coaches and officials while upholding the spirit of nationalism and patriotism. He stressed that plans have been made for the 5th National Sports Festival in December 2024, as preparation for success in the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in 2025.
The Prime Minister called for collaborative efforts in preparing for the sports festival and emphasized systematic planning to ensure the participation of more qualified athletes in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand and the 20th Asian Games in Japan in 2026.
During the ceremony, cash awards were presented to medal-winning individuals and teams, with 30 million kyats for gold medalists, 20 million kyats for silver medalists, and 10 million kyats for bronze medalists, totaling 390 million kyats.
Myanmar athletes achieved a total of 24 medals in 2023, including 5 gold, 5 silver, and 14 bronze across various Asian and global sports events. These achievements included 1 gold and 2 bronze medals during the 19th Asian Games in China, 3 bronze medals at the 4th Asian Para Games in China, a silver medal at E-Sports World Championship in Romania, 1 gold and 1 silver medals at 14th World Body Building and Physique Sports Championship in the Republic of Korea, a gold medal at 19th Petanque World Championship in Thailand, and 2 gold, 3 silver and 9 bronze medals at 7th World Vovinam Championship in Viet Nam respectively.
