Receiving delegation: MoI Union Minister received delegation of MEC

The patron of Myanmar Engineering Council Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than and Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant, in the morning on Tuesday, received Myanmar Engineers delegation who will attend the World Federation of Engineering Organizations Executive Committee Meeting, Madrid Conference and World Engineering Day 2023 Ceremony to be held in Madrid Cit of Spain from 28th February to 4th March, 2023.

At the meeting, the delegation leader Dr. Aung Kyaw Myat clarified the trip, meeting and events to be attended and the matters related to the conference.Myanmar Engineering Council is actively participating with the national level representation in the World Federation of Engineering Organizations(WFEO) which is the international organization for the engineering profession founded under the auspices of UNESCO and is serving the responsibilities for the Committee on Education in Engineering as a host organization.

Also present at the meeting were the deputy minister U Yin Maung Nyunt, director general, managing director and officials and the delegation of Myanmar Engineering Council. In the afternoon, the Union Minister together with the deputy minister, permanent secretary from the Ministry of Science and Technology, director general and managing director and officials from the Ministry of Industry, Rectors and Professors from the Ministry of Science and Technology altogether 54 persons attended the Iron ore source areas in Myanmar and applicable iron and steel production methods workshop held at office no (30) in Nay Pyi Taw.

In his opening speech, the Union Minister said this workshop is organized to conduct the extensive discussion regarding with the Iron ore source areas in Myanmar and applicable iron and steel production methods according to the instruction of the Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister to submit a plan to be implemented for the establishment of steel mill based on the status of available raw materials with the collaboration of the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.

From the later 500 BE, iron had been used in Myanmar. With the manual iron wares manufactured from the furnaces, the urban cities and industries were founded and facilitated the economic development. The evidences of iron making furnaces were found in Smon River delta region. At the moment, over 300 plants of ironworks including one from the Ministry of Defense, two from the Ministry of industry, 3 from Myanma Economic Corporation and 362 iron foundries registered at the directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection are carrying out the development of iron and steel manufacture etc.

Next, the deputy general manager of No (1) Heavy Industry Enterprise U Kyaw Min Aung discussed regarding with the Iron ore source areas in Myanmar and applicable iron and steel production methods, the attendees took part in the discussion gave necessary suggestions and the Union Minister gave a speech of conclusion and the event was concluded, its’ learnt.
