Southern China swelters in 27 day heatwave

The Southern provinces of China continue to swelter under record high temperatures. The country's meteorological authorities have continued to issue heat alerts for 27 consecutive days and highest alerts for 5 consecutive days.In Shanghai,the highest temperature has been reaching 39 degree Celsius for seven consecutive days.
The city of Chongqing in southwest of the country witnessed a record-breaking period of high temperature this summer, with the highest going beyond 45 degree Celsius. This summer is believed to have the most intense heat wave in six decades.Severe soil drought has been reported in the drainage areas of the Yangtze River, as rainfall in the region drops to the lowest in 60 years.
