Spain will hold a repeat parliamentary election on Nov. 10, acting prime minister Pedro Sanchez said on Tuesday. It came after failing to secure enough support to be confirmed as premier. Sanchez's Socialist Party got the most votes in the April 28 elections but failed to get a majority. He acted after King Felipe VI said there were no possible candidates to lead a new government.

The king, who is the head of state, had earlier consulted all key political leaders to confirm whether a deal to put together a government was still possible in a deeply fragmented parliament. the far-left Unidas Podemos blamed Sanchez for failing to galvanize support, putting the country on course for a repeat election. Sanchez in turn blamed Unidas Podemos for preventing the formation of a progressive government for the fourth time.
