The Spanish Prime Minister has urged Poland and Hungary to lift their veto on an EU budget and coronavirus recovery fund. Poland and Hungary have refused to sign off on a 80 billion package agreed on in July by EU leaders. Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, said on Wednesday that he hoped that both countries were conscious of the importance for recovery the package meant.

Spain's and Italy's political leaders, accompanied by their ministers spoke on the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, which has badly hit both countries. The leaders also addressed an upsurge in migrants and asylum seekers reaching the shores of the Canary Islands. Sanchez said that the border control of both Italy and Spain was "efficient and capable". Spain and Italy have not met for a bilateral summit in seven years.
