Spreading Disinformation: Fake news concerning Mawlamyine University

Fake news are deliberately spreading on social media that the rector of Mawlamyine University held an emergency meeting on November 16th to forbid the academic staff from living outside the university campus.

This intentional fake news claimed that the escalating number of academic staff moving to nearby relatives’ home and outside the campus due to the worry about the invasion and attack of terrorist insurgents to Loikaw University in Kayah State, and the abduction of teachers and their family members.

Regarding this fabricated news, the Rector of Mawlamyine University explained that the meeting held on November 16th was just a regular academic meeting of Mawlamyine University and news on social media broadcasted by destructive media outlets was just fake, intending to harm the peace and stability of the nation, causing misunderstanding among the public.
