Thai officials announce huge heroin seizure

Customs officials in Thailand said Tuesday they have made their biggest seizure of heroin this year, almost 315 kilograms, worth as much as approx. 30 million US dollars. Officials said that 134 packets of the drug, each weighing 2.4 kilograms had been concealed in a shipment of 270 buckets of acrylic paint that were to be shipped to Australia before they were discovered during an inspection on Monday. Officials did not say from where the heroin, which was wrapped in plastic bearing a "Double UO Globe" logo, originated. Authorities said they have arrested one suspect who has links to previous smuggling cases to Australia and Taiwan.
