Thousands of NRA members attended the annual National Rifle Association [NRA] Convention in Houston on Friday and Saturday, despite the mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, just three days before. Speakers like Cruz denounced the mass shooting in Uvalde, but insisted that restricting firearms is not the answer.

Jeremy Britto, NRA member said "How is gun control going to help mass shootings stop? How? That's the question everybody wants to know, right? The gun didn't do it. Guns don't shoot by themselves. You need somebody behind the trigger to pull it, so, no, I don't believe it's any firearms problem. I think it's a mental health problem in this country that no one wants to address."

The convention was last held in 2019.
