A discussion took place at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism in Nay Pyi Taw for prevention of human trafficking in the tourism sector and related industries in Myanmar.
In his address, Union Minister Dr. Htay Aung said that it has been found in many countries of the world that human trafficking (or modern slavery) and other problems have been carried out using the nature of the tourism industry. He highlighted the ministry’s awareness programmes, meetings and workshops with the help of domestic and foreign partner organizations to protect children from sexual exploitation in the tourism industry since 1997.
A Guest List Management System is now in use in order to prevent unwanted problems with foreign tourists. In order to effectively implement human trafficking prevention activities related to tourism, the government-private-public must all work together, the Union Minister added.
And, attendees made discussions on tourism sector, measures to prevent human trafficking and reintegration and rehabilitation of human trafficking victims. This discussion also included a question and answer session.
