Tunnel Construction Breakthrough, major development milestone for Nepal

A breakthrough has been successfully conducted in the construction of rescue tunnel of the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel, in Nepal on Monday. This project is to be built at the cost of 22.5 billion rupees of which the Nepal government will contribute 6 billion rupees while government of Japan has provided development assistance loan worth 15.2 billion rupees for the Tunnel Construction Project.

There are seven cross passages in 2.5 kilometer long and 4.5-meter-wide tunnel. The length of main tunnel of the project is 2,688 meters. ‘Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project’ is the first of its kind in Nepal and its objective is to improve the road condition and to achieve the smooth transportation network between Kathmandu and other cities in Nepal. The construction of the tunnel began in October 2019 and is expected to complete by April 2024.
