Typhoon Lan is expected to bring rough weather and make landfall between the Tokai region in central Japan and the Kinki region in western Japan on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Agency says as of 3 p.m. Sunday, the typhoon was 320 kilometers south of Hachijojima Island and was moving northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon is packing winds of up to 144 kilometers per hour, with peak gusts of up to 198 kilometers per hour. Thunderstorms are forecast for the Pacific coast of eastern and western Japan on Monday and Tuesday.

Weather officials are urging people to stay on alert for mudslides, floods, overflowing rivers and gusts. They are also calling on them to check their local hazard maps and emergency stocks.

Residents are also advised to follow weather updates, as the typhoon could disrupt transportation during the Bon holiday period.
