Hundreds of Americans were evacuated from a cruise ship early Monday morning, after spending 13 days under quarantine off Japan over the coronavirus. U.S. officials late on Sunday prepared chartered planes to evacuate citizens who were on board the stranded Diamond Princess.

Two flights operated by Kalitta Air carrying a few hundred American passengers from the ship departed from Haneda Airport on Monday morning. All passengers were screened before being allowed on the chartered flights and are subject to a 14-day quarantine upon arrival back in the United States.
