US reports close to 400,000 COVID-19 infections, over 12,700 deaths

The number of COVID-19 infections in the United States had drawn close to 400,000 by Tuesday evening, according to the tally updates published by Johns Hopkins University. There had been 396,223 confirmed cases, and 12,722 people had died of the disease in the country, according to the data compiled by the university's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE).

The state of New York, the center of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., reported more than 138,800 COVID-19 cases. The state had lost 731 lives to COVID-19 from Monday to Tuesday, bringing the state's death toll to 5,489, the Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Tuesday.
