Vaccination For Students: 1st Dose Of Sinovac Vaccine For Students Started In YGN

The Vaccination Program for the middle and high school students aged 12 and above years has started in in Nay Pyi Taw during October in an effort to prevent and control of the transmission of COVID-19 Virus.

There are 1,070 middle and high schools in Yangon Region; from there 68,558 students will be given the Sinovac jabs, Yangon Region Education Officer said.

Education Officer, Yangon Region, Hnin Kyi said “There are 1,070 middle and high schools in Yangon Region. From there, according to the students who attended till 8th July 2021, 68,558 students will be vaccinated as the first stage. We prior informed about this vaccination program to the parents in cooperating with the education staff family members, general administrators, TMOs and school principals.”

Deputy Director General, Yangon Region Public Health Department, Dr. Tun Myint said “For those eligible students, first dose of Sinovac vaccine is going to be given and second dose will be after 4 weeks of that. It will reduce the infection rates among the students, teachers, and parents. We are going to reopen the schools after the completion of two doses. In other countries, millions of such aged groups have already got the Sinovac shots and no serious side effects were happened.”

For the vaccination process, they first take parents’ permissions, then students under medical problems need to show up their relevant medical recommendations, and students have to fill registration forms which decide whether they should or shouldn’t get the shots. 

At the same time, this vaccination program is being conducted at the YUFC hall in Hlaing Township and there are 270 schoolchildren aged between 12-18 years to get the Sinovac shots from 14 out of 17 schools in the township.

Student, BEHS 1 Latha (Thatama), Bhone Myat Thu said “Today is the first day we got the Sinovac jabs. Our classroom teacher called us three days ago for this vaccination plan and I was really glad because schools are about to reopen. I’m very thankful for receiving the jabs.  I’d like to invite friends to get vaccinated.”

They have to conduct temperature screening before vaccination and wait for 30 minutes after vaccination to check the reactions of vaccination. All procedure is going under the rules and regulations issued by the Ministry of Health including social distancing and emergency cares at the site.

It is learnt that, vaccination program is for those schoolchildren aged 12 years and above who have enrolled for 2021-2022 academic year, but for those who haven’t yet; plans are underway to give the jabs by the priority stages.
