VP Harris meets with Ghana President Akufo-Addo

Vice President Kamala Harris welcomes the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to the White House on Thursday. At the White House, the two will discuss bilateral causes and strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
Harris held a photo-op with Akufo-Addo in the vice president's ceremonial office, saying to reporters that the bilateral relationship with Ghana began in 1957 and emphasized the "deep and historical ties" reflecting the African Diaspora in the United States.

Akufo-Addo said the "two nations share a commitment to democracy" and addressed the challenges his country faces in the battle against COVID-19. He said his country hopes to vaccinate at least 20 million people by the end of this year. The U.S., a member of the United Nations-backed COVAX initiative, and other organizations have donated 1.2 million doses of the Moderna vaccine to Ghana and Harris announced 1.3 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be shipped soon.
