Work Environment Issue: Elimination Of Unsafe Working Environment & Health (Agriculture)

The training course on “Elimination of Unsafe Working Environment and Health (Agriculture)” is underway in Yangon with the second day lecture on Tuesday.

The training course is organized by Agriculture and Farmer Federation of Myanmar (AFFM) to find out unsafe working conditions in agricultural sector, to form safe working environment and to lessen negative impacts on health. Agricultural sector committee members from Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar are attending the training course. It is expected to spread awareness and knowledge on safe working environment through well-trained representatives.

General Secretary, Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar, Than Lwin said “Different sectors have different nature and threats for workers. That’s why we have different experts specialized in different subjects as trainers. Agro-chemicals have short-term or long-term negative impacts for users, plants, environment and consumers – the whole ecosystem. So, farmers need to be educated for the right use.”

Potential threats to workers in agricultural sectore are mainly machines, agro-chemicals, natural disasters such as flood, earthquake and thunder strike as well as snake and insects, it’s learnt.

Trainer, Aung Pyae Sone Maung said “My lecture is about machine safety – the right way to use machinery and work equipments and to repair the machines only with mechanic’s help when they break down. I would demonstrate equipments to be used for different tasks as well.”

The 2nd day lecture included topics of machine safety, personal protective equipment, materials storage and handling, highway traffic, wells safety and ergonomic.The 4-day training course is set to be held until the 1st of August.
