Chinese President Xi Jinping held a video conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday.

The two leaders touched on topics including energy, trade, the pandemic and the recovery of the global economy. China and Germany have brought into play the economic links between the two countries and achieved a win-win situation.

Merkel will step down later this year after 16 years at the helm of Europe's largest economy.  Xi spoke highly of Merkel's contributions to promoting relations between China and Germany. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany.
