The world's top big wave surfers tackled the legendary waves of Portugal's ancient fishing village of Nazare on Tuesday in the World Surf League's first team-oriented big wave tow-in competition. The competition included women for the first time in mixed-gender teams. Kai Lenny and Lucas Chianca came out as Team Champions as Team Young Guns, while Lenny also scooped the award for Men's Wave of the Day.

French surfing legend Justine Dupont claimed the award for Women's Wave of the Day. WSL estimated that waves reached around 45 feet on Tuesday as active storms in the North Atlantic caused a solid swell which, together with light winds created "exceptional" weather conditions for the competition to take place, the World Surf League said.
