Accuracy of Voter Lists: UEC held meeting with MOIP officials

Union Election Commission held a work coordination meeting on the accuracy of voter lists at the UEC office on Thursday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of the Union Election Commission U Ko Ko stressed the pivotal role of correct voter lists in holding general election. Based on the weaknesses encountered in 2020 general election, the UEC emphasized on the accuracy of the voter lists.

He added that Central, District, State and Township level Ground census enumeration commissions were formed under the guidance of the State Administration Council to ensure the accuracy of voter lists. He called for the concerted efforts of the relevant departments to coordinate the requirements in collecting voter lists.

Then, Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing clarified the status of ground census enumeration, submission of the first draft of ground population list to UEC, current tasks undertaken under Pan Khin Project and verification of the political parties.

He added that Nationwide census enumeration will be conducted in October 2024 to ensure all the eligible citizens to be able to vote. Next, members of the UEC presented reports on requirements to ensure the best outcomes in collecting voter lists. Upon reports, the Chairman of UEC and the Union Minister coordinated requirements.
