Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation held a coordination meeting to increase the production of oil and cotton crops in Nay Pyi Taw council area.

In this meeting at the Ministry on Thursday afternoon, Deputy Minister Dr. Aung Gyi highlighted efforts in order to achieve domestic oil self-sufficiency and reduce the importation of edible oil from abroad by studying the oil types and amount of domestic oil consumption and expanding the cultivation of oil crops.

In order to fully produce the crops according to the yield per acre, it is necessary for the relevant departments to properly manage the seed, land, water and method requirements according to the growing season. And, the Deputy Minister called for discussions for implementation of the Nay Pyi Taw council area as a model region with high production growth of oil and cotton crops.

The meeting continued with discussions on the ongoing oil and cotton crops plantation situation in the Nay Pyi Taw council area, water supply, equipment, use of pure seed, inputs, fertilizers, techniques, target yield and cooperation with the private sectors, farmers and growers. It’s reported that more than 130,000 acres of oil crops are planned to be planted in the 2024-2025 growing season in the Nay Pyi Taw council area.
