Dozens of migrants blocked by barbed wire on Mexico-US border

Dozens of migrants were stranded between barbed wire fences after crossing the Rio Grande, which divides Mexico and the United States, as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken opened talks in Mexico to address surging migration, which has become a major political headache for President Joe Biden as he enters an election year.

Around 10,000 people without authorization are trying to cross the southern US border each day, nearly double the number before the pandemic. Mexico's Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena said on Wednesday she spoke with U.S. authorities about the importance of reopening border crossings, following the shutdown of some passages by the U.S. aimed at curbing rising migration.
