Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has been elected as Pakistan's new president, according to local media reports on Saturday.

This will be Zardari's second term as the country's president, having earlier served in the role from 2008 to 2013. The new president was elected by the electoral college of the newly elected members of the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies, as per the provisions of the Constitution. Zardari would replace the incumbent Dr Arif Alvi, whose five-year term ended last year.
