Peace Efforts: Eight-Point Agreement Reached At 8th JICM

Eight-point agreement has reached by both sides for implementing the Chapter 3, 4 and 6 of the NCA, Director-General U Zaw Htay from the Office of the Ministry of the State Counsellor said at a press, following the 8th Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting on NCA, together with RCSS Secretary U Sai Ngin.

The Director-General said the meeting agreed to seek framework agreement by both sides for NCA implementation, steps for peace process beyond 2020 and step by step implementation. He added that the leaders agreed on the type of agreement for Part-3 of the Union Accord.

They also decided to hold the fourth session of the Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong during the first four months of 2020.

The leaders also agreed to form a working committee for defining the NCA and agreed to work for inclusiveness based on NCA. He continued that the last point agreed by the leaders is to hold UPDJC and JMC meetings within eight months after the 8th JICM.

He added that the two sides are expected to meet again this month, and they openly discussed the armed conflicts with four organizations of the northern alliance. The RCSS Secretary also stressed the importance of inclusiveness, and EAOs are working hard include the other groups as well.
