Regional Progress: Agriculture and rural development in PutaO

The Kachin State Government is implementing a program for food sufficiency in PutaO District, the northernmost tip of Myanmar, within a three-year period.

On April 28th, 10,000 baskets of Sin Akary-3 high-yield paddy species were distributed to farmers in PutaO. There are over 37,000 monsoon paddy species in PutaO District, which comprises four townships. In addition, vegetables and perennial crop species were also distributed to the farmers.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister U KhetHtein Nan called for cooperation of all concerned persons in overcoming the obstacles for the successful implementation of the tasks. After the ceremony, the Chief Minister and party oversaw the storing of paddy species, and provided cash assistance to the farmers.

They then inspected the construction progress of Seed Purification Factory, and operation process, broadcasting of natural fertilizer, concrete paving of the road to Government Technical School and the chosen site for construction of a new reinforced concrete bridge.

They also inspected the construction of new school buildings at the Technical, Agriculture and Livestock Breeding High School, concrete paving on PutaO Plain Circular Road, gravel paving on Pamati -Malikhaung Road, thriving plantations of perennial crops, fish breeding tasks, sufficient supply of drinking water and electricity in Pamati Village. In Mudon Village, the Chief Minister met with local farmers and discussed matters on land reclamation and supply of irrigated water. He also fulfilled the needs of farmers and inspected the farmlands and main irrigation canal.
