Rural Development: Efforts for cotton cultivation and production

Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe accompanied by officials made an inspection tour in Yamethin Township on Friday.

The Union Minister and party arrived at the ToePwarGyi Cotton factory near ShweDar village and inspected the packing of the cotton and production of cotton seeds oil. Officials reported on the undertaking processes in which the Union Minister pledged for market penetration of produced cotton and providing assistance for grinding cotton seeds. He also highlighted to to ensure quality control and safety measures.

Then, the Union Minister coordinated the needs reported by the officials. Next, the Union Minister and party attended the meeting with Cotton cultivators at the KaTin Village. At the meeting, the Union Minister said cotton cultivation and production is important for clothing needs.

Cotton produced in Myanmar has been exported as raw material to abroad. It is necessary to produce value-added product by providing technique, machine and capital. Stressing the needs to choose quality seeds, the Union Minister pledged that the ministry will contact with the respective departments to get the necessary input and machinery.

The Union Minister urged Department of Agriculture to support and provide the necessary technologies in order to prevent the dangers of pests due to the hot weather. During the meeting, Indian species cotton seeds and agricultural inputs were provided to the farmers and members of cooperatives associations.
