In celebration of the 77th Union Day anniversary, the Sein Taung-Hlawkahtar Solar Mini-Grid electrification project was officially commissioned into service.

The ceremony, attended by Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, took place in Sein Taung Village of Laymyethna Township in the Ayeyawady Region on Sunday. Implemented by the Rural Development Department, the project received a budget allotment of over 2.8 billion kyats, with 60% funded by the government and 20% each from the village community and the winning tendered company. The electrification initiative is set to significantly enhance the socio-economic status of over 400 households in the region by providing them with access to electricity.

The Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development is working to bridge the development gap by focusing on rural electrification in Off-Grid areas through the use of renewable energy sources. The ministry has formulated both short and long-term plans for this purpose.

From the fiscal year 2016-2017 to the current fiscal year 2023-2024, the ministry has successfully implemented 130 micro-power supply projects, over 19,000 solar power projects, and installed more than 54,000 lamp posts. These initiatives have benefited over 2.5 million people across more than 10,000 villages, contributing to the overall development of the region.
