Mon State Government organized the Chief Minister’s Cup U-25 Football Tournament. The opening ceremony took place at Students’ Sports Ground in Mawlamyine on 16th January. Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein addressing the participating teams, emphasized adherence to tournament rules and regulations, with a strong emphasis on impartial decisions from the judges.

The tournament, featuring U-25 football teams from 10 townships, will run until January 31st. On the 17th, the Chief Minister attended a ceremony to clarify the stipulations included in the Order relating to Standardized Packaging of, and Printing Graphic for Health Warning Images and Texts on Cigar and Tobacco Products, work guidance and assessment samples.

In his speech, the Chief Minister said Myanmar, having implemented the order in October 2021, stands as the third Southeast Asian country, following Singapore and Thailand, to actively practice tobacco control measures. The Chief Minister called for collective efforts to combat health issues arising from the use of cigar and tobacco products.

Mon State Government has nominated the Kyaikhteeyoe Pagoda platform and Kyaikkhami Mid-stream Pagoda precinct for the ASEAN Smoke-Free Award (ASA) for 2023 and 2024. The Chief Minister urged collaboration among stakeholders to address health challenges associated with tobacco consumption.

In the afternoon, the Chief Minister attended a work coordination meeting of the Implementing Committee to emerge clean and green schools in Mon Schools. Plans are underway to award Clean and Green School Award in National level and region/state level respectively. For Mon State level, a school each for high school and primary school level will be chosen, and the award will be presented during the World Environment Day on 5th June.
