ASEAN Affairs: Occupational Safety & Health Network Meeting

Myanmar hosted the 23rd ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET) Coordinating Board Meeting via video conference in line with the COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

The opening ceremony of this virtual meeting was attended by Union Minister for Labour Dr. Pwint San, Deputy Minister U Win Shein, Secretary General of the ASEAN Secretariat, representatives from the International Association of Labour Inspection, Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and ASEAN member states and also officials from the international organizations.

In his opening address, the Union Minister stressed Myanmar has enacted the Occupational Safety and Health Law and is continuing to promulgate the necessary regulations in order to increase the occupational safety and health issues of workers from various workplaces. As there are more industries that can be inspected and regulated by law, more works will be done to protect the occupational safety and health of workers. He also pledged that Myanmar will continue to work together to achieve the goals of the ASEAN Workplace Safety and Health Network.

The Union Minister concluded his address, focusing that there are still difficulties and challenges, but due to the joint efforts of ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network member countries and international partner organizations, the Network will overcome these challenges and achieve success.

The meeting continued with Director General of the Factories and General Labour Laws Inspection Department chairing it and attendees discussed issues related to occupational safety and health, and the Director General gave the closing remarks. This 23rd ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET) Coordinating Board Meeting and related events are set to take place till the 30th of September.
