Business Opportunities: 15th Joint Meeting Of Myanmar-Japan CCI Business Cooperation Committees

About 20 Japanese Business Entrepreneurs discussed the business opportunities with Myanmar counterparts in Yangon at the 15th Joint Meeting of the Myanmar-Japan CCI Business Cooperation Committees (MJBCC-JMBCC) on Thursday.

The meeting was jointly organized by the UMFCCI and Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI). It intended to increase the trade, investment and business cooperation between the two countries by solving challenges and difficulties.

Presidentl, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Zaw Min Win said “Aiming to speed up bilateral economic cooperation, the two largest business communities in Myanmar and Japan initiated this kind of meeting over 20 years ago. This is the 15 times of organizing such business meeting.”

The messages of Deputy Minister at the Office of the State Counsellor U Khin Maung Tin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were also read out at the meeting.

Ambassador, Japanese Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, H.E. Ichiro Maruyama said “As our Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe mentioned and sent by his messages, he impressed and valued the transitional period of economic sectors which are conducted by Myanmar Government. All the attendees from various business enterprises will meet and discuss the challenges and difficulties of trade, investment and business cooperation.”

Japan's investment in Myanmar ranks at 10, and the trade volume between the two countries has been increased annually, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce said.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Aung Soe said “As a result from the previous meeting, the trade and investment sector between Japan and Myanmar is developing. For the trade sector, the export rate becomes 1.4 billion especially in garment industry. The import rate has 4 million. The trade volume between Myanmar and Japan have been developing annually and now it has gained almost 2 billion.”

The meeting discussed a variety of topics, ranging from human resource capacity to policies on small and medium enterprises, commercial aviation industry, technical industry, legal advisory industry, education and service industry, energy industry as well as the tourism industry in Myanmar.

President, JTB Polestar Co., Ltd., Kyaw Min Htin said “Myanmar has many tourist destination places to visit such as Bagan, Mandalay, Inle and the 2017's Asia number one beach Ngapali and in lower Myanmar the Myeik Islands. I've highlighted that there are many tourism opportunities for these places. Our country currently have over 35,000 rooms for major tourist sites. We are preparing to increase the numbers of room for tourists in order to improve the opportunities to enter Tourists in Myanmar.”

It is learnt that the results from the meeting will be discussed again by representatives from Japanese Embassy with Myanmar Government and other officials.
