Commemorative Stamp: Marking The 52nd ASEAN Founding Anniversary

In commemoration of 52nd anniversary of the founding of ASEAN, Myanmar posts under the Ministry of Transport and Communications issued new stamp, album, and post card with first day cover at respective Region and State Post Offices as a special program on Thursday. 

The release of the commemorative stamps was decided at ASEAN Postal Business Meeting in 2018. The ASEAN member States designated to issue stamps featuring each national costumes simultaneously starting 8th August.

Managing Director, Myanmar Post (Ministry of Transport and Communications), Khan Aung said “Myanmar Post use to issue the ASEAN commemorative stamps very often since 2007, including the 50th anniversary ASEAN founding commemorative stamps in 2017. It aims to promote unity among the member States. We sell one stamp for 100 kyats and it is a very special day for stamp to be released. The stamps can be available at States and Regions post offices.” 

The stamp collectors also came to buy the newly issued stamps and first day covers.

Stamp Collector, Myat Thein Hla said “Stamps collecting is my hobby and I use to collect stamps for a long time, and it brings relaxation and enjoyment. I came here to get the first day cover seal, and it is valuable for me. I collected stamps from Myanmar and foreign countries as well. I am very enjoyed to watch my collection of stamps and it also reflects a historical value.”

Collecting stamps could benefit general knowledge, affordability, educational benefits, and historical value, the Chairman of the Myanmar Philatelic Society said.

Chairman, Myanmar Philatelic Society, Mya Thaung said “Philately is an art and stamp collecting is a king of hobby. Some of the State leaders also collect stamps. Our society also exhibited stamps exhibition in some cities so as to raising awareness among the public. I would like to say that stamps collecting is an encyclopedia of nature, society, history, technology, sports and so on.” 

Myanmar Post has released two designs of ASEAN stamps, one album, two designs post card and three styles of first day cover starting 8th August to commemorate of 52nd anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN.
