Coordination meeting: MoNREC UM attended meeting of Forest Department

The coordination meeting of Forest Department to implement 2023-2024 fiscal year work undertakings and 2024-2025 fiscal year forest restoration works and fully implementing target income and production was held at the headquarters of forest department in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 25th April and was attended by the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, Deputy Minister U Min Thu and Senior officials.

In his opening speech, the Union Minister said that the forest coverage of the country is 42.19% in 2020. During the period of 2010 to 2020, the average forest depletion was at 0.96% that is the annual average depletion of 700,000 acres. The restoration of forest coverage, extension of forest reserves and public forest protected areas, establishing forest plantation and Village used firewood plantation, conservation of natural forest, protection of ecosystem and biodiversity, prevention of illegal timber trafficking will be needed as the national task etc. The Union Minister added that the regions and states in-charges need to put effort for the best preparation to be full and excessive of targets this fiscal year based on the advantages and disadvantages of work undertakings and action plans implemented in 2023-2024 fiscal year.

After that, the Director General of Forest Department and regions and states in-charges clarified regard with work implementations and the Union Minister gave necessary instructions.
