A coordination meeting on permission for movie broadcasting using communication networks took place at the Ministry of Information in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday. Union Minister U MaungMaungOhn highlighted that there is screening of movies via social media applications such as Facebook, Youtube, Viber, Telegram, etc.

Since these movies lack censorship, they include plots that could insult the policies of the state, religion, and racism, as well as national solidarity and cultural customs which are not in conformity with the existing laws, bylaws, directives, and procedures of the state.

These toxic media could influence the thinking and emotions of the young generation, leading to wrong actions. He added that the ministry has issued orders Nos. 31, 32, and 33/2024 on 13th March, concerning the screening of movies using communication networks. These orders will come into effect after one month of their announcement, and action will be taken in line with the law if violations are found.
