Devotion and Tradition: Thadingyut celebration in Mandalay

In Mandalay, pilgrims offered flowers, water, lights and gold foils to the Maha Myat Muni Buddha Image on the full moon day of Thadingyut on Sunday. Likewise, the prominent pagodas in the town were also thronged with pilgrims, taking the peaceful shelter of the Buddha.
At night, the Thadingyut Lighting Festival was organized at Yadanapon Garden in the eastern part of Mandalay Moat, along with the charity feast and entertainment programs. During the festival 5,000 candle lights were lit while oil lamps were floated and hot-air balloons were released.
