Drug Abuse Control: CCDAC held a meeting 1/2023

The Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control held a meeting 1/2023 at the Areindama hall of Myanmar Police Force in Nay Pyi Taw in the afternoon on 25th October and was attended by the Chairman Central Committee member of State Administration Council Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen. Yar Pyae, committee secretary Deputy Minister/Chief of Myanmar Police Force Lt-Gen. Ni Lin Aung, joint-secretary, committee members, Senior Police officers, representatives from relevant ministries in person, chairmen, Vice chairmen, secretaries and joint-secretaries from regions and states committees on drug abuse control through video conference.

İn his opening speech, the central committee chairman said the problem of drug abuse is the one threatening the whole human kind across the globe. Solving the drug abuse problem in myanmar, it’s important for the prevailing of regional stability, rule of law and the cooperation of the people in a whole.

The task on the drug abuse control needs to be addressed as it’s intertwined with the trafficking of weapon, terrorism, money laundering and crimes of border crossing. For Myanmar, it’s not enough in the implementation of work plans drawn for complying with the regions as per the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, regions and stats by using national level drug abuse control strategic plan as the guidance framework.

Up to 23rd October, 2023, the combined forces included Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and Custom Department could capture opium, heroin, stimulant tables, ICE, ketmine, Eastasy pills, Happy Water and other narcotic drugs, controlled and non-controlled chemicals worth over 802 billion Kyats (over 381 million USD).Myanmar is cooperating with UN and neighboring countries, ASEAN member countries, countries of Mekong Region, member countries of BIMSTEC, international organizatons on drug control as well as Yangon based international organizations such as UNODC, AFP, DEA, NNCC and ONCB in the task of drug abuse control etc.

Next, the central committee secretary, joint-secretary and members clarified the relevant tasks of drug abuse control and the central committee Chairman gave a speech of conclusion.
