First Kidney Transplant: Successful Operations At Tatmadaw Hospital

The first kidney transplant at Tatmadaw Hospital in Aungban Township of Shan State was performed on Thursday with the Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy technique, a surgical procedure that allows kidney donor to recover faster.

The operations for 2 patients were performed with the cooperation of urologists and kidney surgeons led by Brig-Gen Saw Yan Naing of the Tatmadaw Hospital, kidney specialists led by Col Daw Khin Phyu Pyar and anesthesiologists and specialized nurses led by Col Daw Yu Aye Latt.

Kidney transplants have been performed at Tatmadaw hospitals since 1995 and 308 patients with kidney failure have been successfully operated to date.
