Flood Affected Areas: 27 Rescue Camps Opened in Kayin State

The water level of Thanlwin River reached above its danger mark in Hpa-an of Kayin State and the wards in the low-lying areas have been inundated.

According to the Hpa-An township General Administrative Department, 27 temporary shelters have been opened for flood-affected people in Kayin State because of swollen Than Lwin River. The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported that the Thanlwin River exceeded 830-cm above its danger mark of 750-cm in Hpa-An on 8th August evening.

Currently, 12 rescue camps have been opened in Hpa-An and about 6,600 people of more than 3,360 households have been evacuated at the rescue camp, the Township General Administrative Department said. Kayin State Education Officer Office said, 99 schools have been shut in Kayin State.

Official from the District Fire Brigade said it is expected to open more than 20 rescue camps for the affected people in Hpa-An and  No.1, No.2 and No.5 wards are the most affected areas in the township. The rescue camps will be extended depending

on the affected people and arrangements are being undertaken for the rescue measures at the designated places in cooperation with the township administrative members. Currently, there are 4 rescue camps opened in Myawady, 12 in Hpa-An, 9 in Hlaing Bwe and 3 in Kawkareik.
