Japanese Films: Festival Extends Friendly Relations Between Myanmar & Japan

The Japanese Film Festival, jointly organized by the Japanese Embassy in Yangon and Japan Foundation, returns to Yangon’s Nay Pyi Taw cinema hall starting from 10th January to 19 January.

The film festival extends the friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan and increases awareness of Japan’s culture through the films. 

Country Director, The Japan Foundation (Yangon), Koji Sato said “We’ve known that Myanmar people love movies and also love Japanese films. We want to have fun for Myanmar audience by watching Japanese films that are currently shown in Japan. The films feature various genres for family, teenagers and young people and Samurai that is favourite by all.”

11 Japanese films in different genres ranging from action, drama and comedy to animation will be screened with Myanmar and English subtitles during 10-day film festival.

Visitor (Bahan Township), Khin Htwe Nge said “It’s a great chance to enjoy the updated films at the cinema hall. We can enjoy many films during a short period of the festival days. The festival will benefit to the young people who are studying Japanese language. They will understand more Japanese language and so also intonation.”

In Yangon, the Japanese Film Festival is held in three venues: the Nay Pyi Taw cinema hall till 19 January, the JCGV cinema in Junction City on the 11th and 12th January, and Mingalar Cinema in Tarmway on 18 and 19 of this month. Admission to all films is free.
